Originally from Western Maryland, Rachel is a DiaspoRican acupuncturist living in Brooklyn. Before her training in acupuncture, she worked as a health educator and patient navigator in HIV services at a community health clinic and did outreach on a mobile testing van. Primarily serving queer and trans sex workers and transient people, this experience solidified her view that centering the health needs of the most marginalized people means better care for everyone.

She learned about acupuncture while volunteering with syringe exchange programs in upper Manhattan and the Bronx and seeing how acupuncture was used for detox, PTSD, and stress. The history of radical/collective uses of acupuncture, harm reduction philosophy, and her witness to the opioid epidemic in her hometown inspired her to pursue learning acupuncture. All these influences continue to guide her practice. She received her Master of Science in Acupuncture and classical Chinese herbal medicine from Tri-State College of Acupuncture, and has worked in various community acupuncture settings since then.

Rachel’s practice involves a combination of Chinese and Japanese points and styles, as well as trigger point release. Rachel habla español.

Hailing from sunny San Diego, Ariel Deva de León received her BA from University of California, Santa Cruz in Community Studies with a focus on Resistance and Social Movements, and a Master of Science in Acupuncture from Tri-State College of Acupuncture in Manhattan.

After graduation, Ariel worked at WorkSong Chinese Medicine in Greenpoint, where finding and working in the community model brought Ariel full circle in terms of incorporating the theories of social movement and social justice into the practice of acupuncture. Patchi, originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil received her Doctorate and Masters in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. As an avid surfer, she naturally found herself studying sports medicine and pain management for self care. It also led her to a two-year apprenticeship in a clinic specializing in pain and orthopedic conditions where she learned to combine Tui Na (Chinese Medical Massage) with Acupuncture to address all patient’s conditions. Outside of school she also completed extensive workshops and courses focusing on Tui Na and sports medicine.

During her time at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, Patchi completed clinical rounds at Housing Works, Institute for Family Health and NYU Langone Hospital for the Initiative for Women with Disabilities. While treating at the clinical rounds Patchi noticed a pattern in patients; that emotional and physical health are deeply intertwined and should always be treated together. In doing so, patients always feel better as they leave their appointments. This experience led her to be interested in treating anxiety, depression, insomnia and pain management. Kanako is an experienced acupuncturist with a Master of Science Degree in Acupuncture from the Tri-State College of Acupuncture. She was trained in various acupuncture styles, with a specialized focus in Kiiko Matsumoto Japanese style acupuncture, and Acupuncture Physical Medicine which places an emphasis on trigger point therapy.

Kanako is a second generation acupuncturist, deeply influenced by her upbringing in both China and Japan as well as her mother who was an acupuncturist herself. Acupuncture and other treatments such as “Gua Sha”, Cupping, Herbal medicine have always been part of her life and have made her who she was today. By nature, she is a very loving and compassionate person so she feels that this medicine is her calling in life - “I always wanted to help people in any way I can. When I first moved to NYC 7 years ago from Tokyo, what I found in my encounters is that many people suffer from side effects attributed to environmental pollution, pharmaceuticals and/or complications from a variety of operations. This created a desire to help others with so much more than just their living arrangements, it made me want to follow in my mother’s footsteps and study acupuncture and East Asian medicine. “

Kanako places a priority on making an emotional connection with patients when diagnosing their conditions and formulating a treatment plan. Empathy and understanding are her biggest strengths when making a patient feel comfortable and open to healing.

Outside of the clinic, Kanako spends her time golfing, hiking, mushroom foraging, and connecting with nature.
